Halloween Does Rock

Halloween is fun, especially being a parent.  Sure, going around trick-or-treating as a kid was great, but watching your baby go trick-or-treat is different, and better.  This year, our little girl will be a punk rocker, different from her usual cute, all-pink lifestyle.  And, at this age, she thinks it’s simply awesome that if she says “treat” (we’re not to trick or treat yet), everyone will give her something.  What a life!

Ahhh…another milestone!

I am usually so excited when my precious munchkin’ takes on a new challenge .  You know…first steps, first real food, first word, first laughing, first 2-word sentence, first “dancing,” first “singing,” climbing the steps, putting on her socks, etc…  For those of you with older kids, I imagine you get excited with first days of school, first soccer games and first ballet recitals.

Predicting the glory days of kids music…

I was at a birthday party tonight for a two-year old where Rocknoceros performed and they were great. A mom came up to me and asked what other local bands I knew of who played good kids music and besides one-man shows, I couldn’t think of anything. Got me thinking…

Ahhh, grandparents!

So, my parents are about to come to town to shower my daughter in clothes, toys and affection. What a great deal for everyone! My little girl gets to be the center of their attention (I’m assuming she’s starting to get bored of us after 19 months), my parents get to buy cute, tiny things (to bring back the memories of when they still liked me) and I get some childcare to go on a date with my wife.

Published…

I wrote an article about DIY Party Planning for your little one. Check it out on page 8 at THE FIRST WORD.

Yeah, I get upset sometimes, but…

I come in contact with many parents, most of whom are great. However, there are always bad apples in the bunch, and I’m shocked at the occasional parent who feels the need to curse violently around kids. How stressful can your child’s party be? It reminds me of playing sports as a kid - while other dads were yelling at the umpire and the kids, my dad focused on embarrassing me (”Andrew, you look very handsome in your uniform” or “I love you SOOOOOOO much”). Seems like a nicer way to live your life - although I didn’t like it then!
